Lincoln School: Dads take your child to school day
Lincoln School welcomed over 50 fathers and father figures during Dads Take Your Child to School Day on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Once the children began their school day, dads gathered in the auditorium for breakfast and a short presentation.
“We love the support of our fathers and father figures in our students’ lives,” said Rebecca Jones, principal of Lincoln School.
Ms. Jones welcomed all the dads, thanking them for their time, and stressed the importance and significance of fathers showing up for their children at school.
Ralph Burts, former principal of Nelson Mandela High School, spoke and encouraged accountability.
“We need to see you here on a regular basis,” said Burts. “It is important to see fathers come to school.”
Burts went on to discuss the significance of reading to children, making sure they get a good night's sleep, and always pushing them to strive to be better. He also added the importance of knowing their children’s interests and ambitions and working together with the school.
Lincoln School took part in the annual Kids Heart Challenge, bringing awareness to heart disease and raising money for the American Heart Association. As a culminating event on Friday, March 22, 2024, all student fundraisers participated in an obstacle course to get their hearts pumping and to have fun.
The hallways of Lincoln School were filled with hues of green on Friday, March 15, 2024, as students and staff wore the color to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and the "Go Green for the Greenhouse" fundraiser.
Students and families in the Lincoln School community continues to celebrate Black history by attending the second annual Wakanda Family Night on Wednesday, March 7, 2024. Families played games, ate dishes inspired by authentic African cuisine and enjoyed festive music.
Seventh and eighth grade students at Lincoln School learned about one of the important figures of Black history on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. They also learned about careers in the legal system and heard from community members with legal experience.
In celebration of the 100th day of school, the kindergarten students at Lincoln School designed their own 100-day outfits on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. They displayed them for the kindergarten and first grade students in a special fashion show. The kindergarten teachers announced the students' names, and the young models walked the runway as music played in the background.
In recognition of Black History Month, fourth and fifth-grade students at Lincoln School took part in an informative and highly engaging assembly program on the extraordinary life of Rebecca Turner.
Seventh and eighth-grade students from Lincoln School took an exciting and informative trip to Mount Vernon City Hall on Monday, November 27, 2023. Students were welcomed by Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, who shared why she is compelled to serve as our mayor. She also answered questions about her duties and passions as a leader.
On Thursday, November 16, 2023, Lincoln School hosted its annual Family Math Night. Students and their families had a wonderful time playing math games such as KenKen, multiplication bingo, Jenga, tic-tac-toe, tangram shape building, and roll-and race addition and subtraction.
